What is Acne?

Acne Rosacea / Acne Vulgaris also known as Pimples (common English), Keel Muhase (Hindi/Urdu), Murum Puraḷa (Marathi), Mukapparu (Tamil), el grano (Spanish), Braṇa (Bengali), akne (Russian). Acne is perhaps the most common chronic skin disease. It is an inflammatory condition of the sebaceous (that is fat or grease) glands and hair follicles usually found on the face, the neck, chest and shoulders. Nearly eight out of ten young people between the ages of 12 and 24 suffer from some degree of acne. All forms of acne have their origin in wrong feeding habits, such as irregular hours of eating, improper food, excess of starches and sugar, excess of fatty foods. Chronic constipation is another major cause of acne. If the bowels do not move properly, waste matter is not eliminated as quickly as it should be and the bloodstream becomes surcharged with toxic matter. The extra efforts of the skin to eliminate excess waste result in acne and other forms of skin disease. Yet another important cause of acne is a devitalized condition of the skin resulting from unhygienic living habits. Other causes of the disorder are excessive use of tea, coffee, alcohol or tobacco, strenuous studies, and sedentary habits which lead to indigestion and general debility.

  • Eat whole grains, whole fruits, vegetables, and legumes all complex carbohydrates that create a relatively slow, steady rise in blood sugar. Eating foods that quickly elevate blood sugar (white bread, pasta, white rice, juices, and sweetened foods and beverages) increases acne.
  • Pimple popping makes the blemish look worse and can leave a scar. Never pierce an infected pimple, not even with a sterilized implement. An infected pimple will heal much faster if you regularly dab it with arnica tincture.
  • Rinse your face immediately after strenuous exercise because the salt and bacterial buildup can cause an outbreak if not washed away.
  • Bitter foods stimulate the liver, the organ that breaks down hormones and many other chemicals so they can more easily be cleared from the body. Try to eat salads made with dandelion greens, radicchio, arugula, endive and artichoke hearts.
  • Apply fenugreek leaves paste on face everyday night and wash it with warm water in the morning to stay away from blemishes.
  • Avoid frequent looking in the mirror and feeling bad about the acne.
